On the bright side, none of us could get our email either, so we weren't burdened by all the complaints people were sending in. Yeah, that's really all I've got for bright side. The problem was not with the site but with the DNS service -- the service that redirects "grist.org" to "294.483.blahblah" or whatever the actual server address is.
